Who is Werkstattschule?

We are convinced that everyone has talents that can be as diverse as people are. We offer a space to discover those talents, develop them and use them in a meaningful way for the community. Our focus lies on the experience of being able to make a difference. In various practical project formats, we bring skills from handicrafts, art and education together in order to strengthen confidence in one's own abilities and encourage the courage to live and learn independently.

Individuality and creativity are integral parts of our work. We are trained craftsmen and artists with a double qualification - or passionate dedication to education. We guide our participants with patience and understanding, from brainstorming to implementation.

This way, unexpected abilities can come to light.

Werkstattschule in today's form has existed since 1983 as a non-profit organization for education and youth work in Heidelberg and the Rhein-Neckar district. Werkstattschule mainly offers job-oriented, practical educational projects for young people during the transition between school and working life. Especially young people who face social, personal and physical challenges and have difficulties with cognitive learning.

In our projects, young people cooperate in learning and working with craftsmen, artists and also with each other; they work together towards a goal and can identify with the created product. And they create something lasting, meaningful, something that adds value for the community, for example their school or their districts. During our projects, craftsmanship can be experienced and personal skills and talents can be used for career orientation.

Our project portfolio includes manual, entrepreneurial, handicraft, cultural and intercultural project formats. The projects aim to encourage and enable young people to make decisions and act independently based on their abilities and talents, so that at the end of their school career they will have their own strategies for realizing their career aspirations.

In our projects we promote competence-oriented learning in an action-oriented context.
